Fashion in Hicksville

Hicksville has become a very fashionable place.

Two boutiques – The Rooted Shoppe and Punchy Cactus – have made their home in the village.

Amanda Davis and her husband Jestin are the owners of The Rooted Shoppe (104 E. High St. ) while Mikayla Ayers owns the Punchy Cactus at 162. E. High St. Both boutiques also have websites to allow customers, who may not be able to make it into the stores, to shop.

Davis said they decided to open The Rooted

Shoppe in the village for several reasons.

“We moved to Hicksville not long after I took a full-time teaching position in the elementary school,” she explained. “We are both invested in the community. Our kids are involved, and we saw the potential to help contribute to the growth of downtown Hicksville.”

Ayers had worked as an ICU nurse before opening the Punchy Cactus but “always had a passion for Western fashion.”

“I just decided one day that I wanted to chase this dream and open a boutique in the area that was completely different than all the others around,” she stated. “Our online presence is where we do most of our sales – shipping products all over the United States. (However) It is important to us to have our store front to get that one-on-one customer interaction and build relationships with them and within the community.”

The community has come out to support both boutiques.

“Our customers have been absolutely amazing at supporting us and helping to make this dream that we have become a reality and grow over the years,” Ayers exclaimed. “We couldn’t continue to do what we do without all of their love and support.”

Davis also praised the community.

“We have been overwhelmed with the support of the community and the love of our customers,” she proclaimed. “We hope to continue to bless others as much as we have been blessed by the community.”

The boutique owners put a lot of thought into what they put in their stores.

“We correlate our items with what is in trend, what is in season and good-quality products that would last,” Davis shared. “We focus on helping all women feel beautiful inside and out. We always put our customers first in anything we do and focus on bringing them trendy styles that are both comfortable and stylish.”

Ayers said she works very closely with a lot of the brands the Punchy Cactus carries.

“We meet with company reps typically about five times a year to order products for future seasons,” she noted. “A lot goes into deciding what products to order. I always try to order and carry products that you don’t see in your average boutique. We carry a very unique style. … I believe the style of clothing that we carry sets us apart from most boutiques – we are very unique in that way. We also carry both women’s and men’s clothing and have recently added an infant section as well.”

Both boutiques have big plans for the future.

“We plan to continue to grow our online presence as well as build out our storefront in Hicksville as we recently purchased the building downtown,” Davis said of The Rooted Shoppe. “We will continue to look for investment spaces to expand.”

Ayers hopes to continue to grow the Punchy Cactus as well.

“Our long-term goal for the store is to be a full Western store – carrying clothing, accessories, tack, trailers, etcetera,” she stated.

Both Ayers and Davis want the public to come in, enjoy and truly know their businesses.

“Although we have the word boutique in our name, we also carry a full men’s line including button-down shirts, graphic tees, outerwear, jeans, boots, ballcaps, belts, ect. A lot of the men’s button-down shirts are not just Western style either, they cross over to be business casual shirts,” Ayers confirmed.

Davis stressed The Rooted Shoppe is a faith-based company “that believes in investing in others and using our platform to bless others.”
